The acclaimed ‘large format’ American Windsurfer magazine was published for over a decade beginning in 1993. The popularity of windsurfing grew alongside the developing accessibility of entry-level windsurfing equipment and destinations to learn, during the mid nineties, and the magazine promoted the first incarnation of their website, publishing select articles, interviews and gear reviews online.
Since then, the magazine’s website has come a long way. This archive and platform for future windsurf sport & lifestyle blogging is a prime example of our web development services focused on websites for online magazines, and one of our portfolio sites we think you’d really enjoy!
In the mid-late nineties, collections of the early print editions were additionally published by volume in hardbound, volumes 1, 2 and 3 loosely corresponding to the years 1993-1995. Designing the content management and dynamic front end templating architecture to re-create the magazine’s system of interwoven types of information and established cataloging methods was the sort of challenge we enjoy the most. Our approach involves a framework of archival landing pages, column sections like the Interviews page and magazine back issues archive.
Readers of American Windsurfer magazine are drawn in by its sheer volume of photos, unique & crafty visual layouts and content design. We coded page type templates and set up options for interrelated content and varied layout options between articles.
